A Clinical Experience with Porcine Kenograft as a Biologic Dressing

Abstract
Allografting and xenografting as a temporary biologic dressing has been an accepted part of the care of the burn wound or open infected wound for many years. Especially, porcine xeno graft as a good substitude for allograft is very effective both experimentally and clinically for control of the infected burn wound. The present study was undertaken in eleven patients -with burn injury to observe the clinical effect of porcine .xenograft lkas¢¥a biologic dressing -using with the fresh and lyophilized porcine skin.
The results were summarized as follows:
(1) The healing of partial thickness burn F seemed to be hastened and the partial thickness burn hardly converted to the full thickness burn.
(2) Porcine xenograft cleaned up the granulating infected wound of the full thickness burn.
(3) Reduction of pain was remarkable, especially in partial thickness burn, and the patient¢¥s sense of well-being and the motion of joint were considerably improved.
(4) Porcine xenograft seemed to lessen the loss of water and heat from the wound.
(5) The application of the pig skin over the wound required less time and effort than usual care of the burn wound.
